The Sacraments are the way that Jesus Christ continues to touch us in physical ways.  They make real what is happening spiritually.  The definition of a Sacrament is "An Outward Sign, Instituted by Christ that gives Grace." Which means that it is something that is physical (Water, wine, Bread, Laying on of hands). Jesus instituted in the Scriptures, and each sacrament gives us a particular grace (Forgiveness, healing, new life.)
